Tip: Check the symptoms list to make sure you're troubleshooting the correct thing! This article is about Fliiiight having difficulty detecting the wheel's motion. If Fliiiight's magnets make contact with the wheel, see the relevant article.

Symptoms
1. Poor Road Feel
- Virtual Inertia is not engaging, or not working consistently. You may feel like you are riding through mud or sand, like the pedals are "slipping" once per wheel revolution or once every several wheel revolutions, or like there is more resistance when then the pedals as at 12 an 6.
(See also: other for contributors to poor road feel)
2. No Resistance and No Power
- Fliiiight turns on and does its initial start up sequence, but then does not engage the magnets to provide resistance.
- Fliiiight connects to your compatible training app, but does not report power or speed, or respond to trainer commands.
Troubleshooting
1. First steps
- Keep riding. Momentary disengagement of virtual inertia will likely resolve itself in a few seconds.
- Use the 4iiii app's diagnostic tools. The "Trainer Sensors" section will give you feedback on the quality of your sensor readings and tips for how to improve them.
- Make sure you have the latest firmware update.
2. Set-up
Make sure that,
- You have rotated the magnet arrays so they are parallel with the rim. In the stowed (vertical) position they will block the sensor.
- You have only one speed index installed, near the wheel rim. Additional indexes are provided as spares.
- You do not have any additional objects on your spokes in the path of the optical sensor. A spoke magnet, reflective tape, or another object could act as a second index, confusing the trainer's wheel model.
- The trainer is installed in the correct orientation, with the legs extended towards the front of the bike, and the U-shaped frame around the back.
- Spin the wheel faster (shift to a higher gear). Your wheel must begin spinning at least 27 km/hr (16 mph) for the trainer to engage. If you are spinning the wheel by hand to test the trainer, hop on and pedal instead.
- Note that STAC Zero wheel weights are not currently compatible with Fliiiight.
3. Wheels
- If your wheel has one distinct spoke, (as do some Mavic wheels) move the index to the distinct spoke.
- If your wheel has wide, flat spokes, your trainer may not be able to distinguish the spoke index. Remove the included index, and fold a piece of tape over one spoke lengthwise to create a wider index.
- Note that disc wheels, aero jackets, and wheels with more than 64 spokes or fewer than 14 spokes are not compatible.
4. Final steps
- Check that the optical sensor isn't obscured by dust or debris.
- Move the trainer out of bright, direct sunlight, or else face the bike directly towards or away from the sun, so the resistance unit is shaded.
- Contact support for assistance. Sending us a photo of your trainer set-up and rear wheel is often helpful!
