Wheel speed
Always use your highest, fastest gear in ERG Mode (TrainerRoad, the Sufferfest). Gearing up does not affect ERG difficulty, but allows the trainer to maintain your target watts with a greater distance between the magnet array and the wheel.
Bike set up
- Make sure your wheel is compatible.
- Use the included trainer skewer, and check that it is properly installed and cannot shift relative to your hub.
- Make sure the skewer is firmly clamped in the skewer cups with the wing nuts locked against the frame to minimize shifting of the bike.
- Make sure your wheel is centred in the trainer. Page 2 in STAC Control Panel's tutorial will help you center the wheel.
Wheel-Magnet Alignment
- Check that the magnet array is aligned with the brake rim. See Appendix A: Wheel Magnet Alignment in your manual or view the support videos for wheel magnet alignment.
- Check that your wheel is true.
App settings
Navigate to Halcyon Tweaks in STAC Control Panel and adjust Magnet Keep out position. This changes the minimum distance between the Magnet Array and the brake rim. Warning: adjusting the magnet keep out position outwards reduces the total watts the trainer is capable of producing. Check other solutions first.
Maintenance
Check that the mounting bolts, indicated below are not loose, allowing the unit to shift relative to the frame. Use a 4mm Allen key to tighten them if needed. This is especially relevant for upgrades.
