Possibly, but with caveats. Three characteristics of track bikes affect their compatibility with the trainer.
- Skewer compatibility
- Lighter wheel rim
- Fixed gears
Skewer compatibility
The included trainer skewer is not compatible with the shorter axle typical of track bikes. You can tighten the skewer cups right onto the bolts instead, however longterm the steel bolts may damage the aluminium skewer cups, making the trainer incompatible with other bikes.
Lighter wheel rim
Track wheels typically use disc brakes, (which allows for a narrower rim), and are built light. That means less aluminium to interact with the magnets, and lower maximum resistance.
Fixed gears
Wheel speed is another factor, along with the magnet distance and the aluminium content of your wheel, that determines how much resistance the trainer can create. The maximum resistance available in ERG mode depends on the gearing, with higher gears creating more resistance.
Wheel compatibility
No matter what type of bike you're using with Fliiiight, remember to check your wheel for steel.
Conclusion:
Track bikes can work with Fliiiight, but depending on the type of workout you plan to do, and the amount of resistance it will require, may not be recommended. Track bikes would work best for long, low resistance workouts or warm-ups on Fliiiight because the combination of light wheels and fixed gearing limits the available resistance. If you own a road bike, we strongly recommend you use it with Fliiiight.
