To control your smart trainer, you'll need a compatible training app running on a device such as a smart phone, tablet, laptop or personal computer. The app will communicate with the trainer over one of two wireless protocols: Bluetooth Smart [BLE] or ANT+.
Steps:
- Download a training app to your device.
- Start up both the app and the trainer.
- Connect to the trainer from within the app.
- Select your workout.
- Start pedalling.
The app will take care of the rest!

Devices:
You can run training apps on smartphones, tablets, PCs, Macs, laptops, or Apple TV. All apps may not be available on all devices.
Your device needs either Bluetooth Smart or ANT+ enabled to communicate with the trainer. Smartphones, tablets and Macs have Bluetooth built in. For Windows PC or laptop, insert an ANT+ dongle in the USB port and install the ANT+ driver.
Devices like smart watches, headsets and bike computers are typically capable of receiving data from the trainer over ANT+ or Bluetooth, but most won't run smart training apps or send commands.
Compatible Training apps:
In order to send commands, training apps must communicate with the smart trainer over one of two standard protocols:
- ANT+: FE-C (fitness equipment controlled)
- Bluetooth Smart [BLE]: FTMS (fitness machine service)
Most popular training apps follow one or both of these standard smart trainer connection protocols. Apps created for a specific trainer brand may not follow these standards. See a list of known compatible apps here.
Many training apps like Zwift and TrainerRoad offer subscription based service. The free 4iiii app allows you to set an ERG or Resistance target and record and share your rides. We recommend upgrading to a paid app to experience more extensive features, graphics and workout libraries.
